As graduation season commences, we’ve become very nostalgic about the interns we’ve had here at 1313 Innovation. We’ve had a great crew over the last two years and we want to catch you up on where and what our past interns are doing now. Sit back and relax because we’re about to take a trip down memory lane with three of our favorite interns.
Gavin Short: Gavin joined us last summer as our first intern ever at 1313 Innovation. As a junior in Operational Leadership at the University of Delaware, Gavin was preparing for his last year of college. If you were to ask any of our members about Gavin, you would notice their smiles first. He was extremely attentive to their needs and was always ready to learn from them. We still talk about how we miss having Gavin in the space.
Where is he now? Gavin is graduating from the University of Delaware with his Bachelor’s Degree in Operational Leadership. He’s starting a program called, “Paws in the Park” and according to the website, “[Paws in the Park] is a social movement project looking to bring awareness and generate interest of animal adoptions.” The 5k walk on Mother’s Day helped connect SPCA animals with potential homes. Gavin says, he started the project because he realized he really enjoyed event planning from his time at 1313 Innovation.
Jeff Fisher: Jeff joined us last fall as a senior in Wilmington University’s Game Design and Development program. The two words I would use to describe Jeff would be talented and dedicated. While interning for us, Jeff also nominated for “Best Indie Video Game” by Technical.ly Delaware and his own company, Luna Wolf Studios created 5 educational games for Legends of Learning.
Where is Jeff now? Jeff recently graduated and started his first day at QVC as an Associate Applications Developer. While doing this full time, Jeff is still pursuing projects with Luna Wolf. Here’s a snippet of the projects he’s working on currently. According to Jeff, “1313 helped me the most via networking and building a following in social media. This internship also gave me ideas for how to impact my industry and society as whole. I’m looking to start an IGDA (International Game Developers Association) for Delaware now.”
Garry Johnson III: Along with Jeff, Garry interned with us over the fall of 2016. Garry joined us as a senior in Exercise Studies with a minor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware. If I were to use one word to describe Garry, it would have to be, “Unstoppable”. He’s always ready for a challenge and has excelled at everything we’ve given him. He wrote blog posts, social posts, marketing material and he even planned his own events, won a pitch competition and started his own nonprofit. Like I said, he’s unstoppable.
